Book Review: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros — A Romantasy That Left Me Breathless

It’s not every day a book completely consumes you — heart, mind, and soul — but that’s exactly what Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros did. I went in with high expectations, thanks to all the hype online… and somehow, it exceeded every single one.

From the very first page, I knew this was going to be something special — and by the end? I was sobbing, breathless, and utterly destroyed in the best possible way. This is not just a book. It’s a full-blown experience.

✨ A Blend of Everything I Love

If you took the emotional grit of Divergent, the stakes and intensity of The Hunger Games, and the world-building magic of Harry Potter, then sprinkled in dragons, spice, and one of the most badass female leads I’ve ever read — you’d get Fourth Wing.

It’s the perfect blend of:

  • High-stakes fantasy

  • Slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance

  • Political intrigue and rebellion

  • Heart-wrenching betrayals

  • Complex, lovable dragons (yes, dragons with actual personalities!)

This book does not slow down. You’re thrown into the brutal training grounds of Basgiath War College and, just like Violet Sorrengail, you’re forced to adapt — fast.

🐉 Violet Sorrengail: The Girl Who Defies All Odds

Violet is hands down one of my favorite heroines in recent memory. She’s not the strongest, the fastest, or the most physically capable — but her intelligence, her heart, and her determination are what make her a force. She is constantly underestimated, and every time, she proves exactly why she shouldn’t be.

What I loved most? Even as she falls in love (hello, slow-burn tension), she never loses herself. Violet doesn’t compromise her values. She speaks up. She holds her ground. And she calls her love interest out when he oversteps. The moment she stood up to Xaden and expressed her feelings without letting herself be overshadowed? Girl. Boss. Move.

❤️ The Romance: Slow Burn with Serious Heat

Let’s talk about the spice. Yes, Fourth Wing has romance — and it’s so good. The chemistry is electric, the tension is high, and when it finally delivers? 🔥 But what makes it truly special is that it’s not just about the heat — it’s layered with trust, pain, boundaries, and growth.

The romance enhances the plot — it doesn’t overpower it.

🐲 The Dragons: Characters in Their Own Right

I am obsessed with the dragons in this book. They are not generic beasts or magical transportation. They are intelligent, opinionated, fiercely loyal, and often hilarious. And the way Violet bonds with not one, but two dragons that reflect different sides of her personality? Perfection.

Their dynamic added depth to the story and made the battles feel even more personal.

💔 The Ending: I’m Not Okay

The last chapters of Fourth Wing were absolutely devastating. I felt every moment — the shock, the betrayal, the heartbreak. I cried so hard I literally couldn’t see the pages at one point. Rebecca Yarros didn’t just deliver a twist — she ripped my soul out and stomped on it… and I loved it.

That’s the mark of a powerful book — one that makes you feel like you’re in the story, not just reading it. I was there with them, fighting, hoping, losing, and aching for more.

⭐ Final Thoughts: Read. This. Book.

Fourth Wing isn’t just a romantasy — it’s a full-body experience. It’s thrilling, emotional, addictive, and beautifully written. It gave me characters to root for, dragons to love, and a world I never want to leave.

Whether you’re already deep into the romantasy genre or just starting out, this is a book that will stay with you. And if you're not ready to feel everything all at once — buckle up. Because Fourth Wing will take you on a ride and leave you begging for the next installment.

★★★★★ 5/5 — A new obsession. A book hangover. A masterpiece.
